the end of the end

I worked my last day yesterday, then packed up all the things from my room into the car and dropped off my keys to the building. I finally picked up the waterproof shell at The North Face that I have been needing and drove the long windy roads from work to home for the last time. In the dark. In the rain. Singing along to traveling music.
The verizon contract is set to expire, just like the gym membership and automatic car payments.
The house is full of boxes, with varying levels of fullness. The beloved plants in the gardens have been unearthed and carried away, the fences taken down, the last pear fallen.
I've unlatched my cage and I'm moving out!
This story is finally coming to a close. I'd like to paint "The End" on the house when I go.
I hope many of the same characters show up in the next book, but if I had that kind of control, I'd have ended this one 3 years ago.

I Want

i want
to be
alone
in the dark with you,
testing how real
alone is,
and
is darkness true
or can we
just
not see?

if I am the goddess
then I created you
from desire's red clay
and black sand
of fear
and
loamy hope
and
old growth Oak
of memory.

I meant for you to stand
in
Shadow.
I meant for you to
lure me
from the sunlight
back
into the
Deep Wood.
I want
to remember
how soft
flesh
braces itself
where no
sunshine
is.
